What to expect at your Pola In-Office Whitening Appointment

Smile! It’s time for your photoshoot, We begin your whitening appointment by taking a close up photo of your teeth. Why? We do this to show you how effective and awesome the Pola in-office treatment is and so that you can have before and after photos as well to see the difference in shades.

Dr. Samarrae will use the Pola shade guide to identify your tooth colour. She will also use this scale to estimate how many shades whiter you want your tooth. Each type of whitening utilises a unique application technique to protect your tooth and gums during the whitening process and long term. Some products contain features that actively protect your tooth and gums during the process, and these can be beneficial as they enable you to achieve the desired whitening effect without incurring damage to your tooth or gums.

We will then take impressions for your whitening trays to bring home to continue whitening your smile.

Dr. Samarrae will then begin to apply a series of whitening gels and use an ultraviolet light to begin the whitening process. Once she has finished this we will take another photo of your teeth so that you can see the amazing results!

How long will my appointment be?

The Pola office whitening treatment on average takes 2 hours to complete in office. It is pain-free and most patients even fall asleep during it!

Retainers

Retainers are often used in conjunction with braces to help with the alignment of teeth. While they are most often used to retain (hence the name) the tooth alignment after braces have been used, they can also help assist in moving the teeth into proper position.

Retainers help to maintain good tooth structure long after braces (or Invisalign®) have been removed. Usually, patients are required to keep wearing their retainers at night, which is usually enough to maintain alignment.

There are also types of retainers that cannot be removed. These are called bonded retainers, and they are permanently attached to the patient’s teeth. They are attached behind the teeth so they cannot be easily seen.

Retainers can also be used to shape and mold the jaw and teeth in conjunction with braces. In these cases, Dr Sheema Samarrae and her team at Findlay Creek adjust patients’ retainers periodically, urging reshaping.

Cosmetic bonding is one of the least expensive cosmetic dental procedures. Many work plans cover the cost of bonding, so make sure to ask your dentist if you’re covered.

Invisalign

Invisalign® is an alternative to braces that is very discreet. A plastic sheath that sits on top of your teeth, the principle is much the same as braces. Grinding your teeth is called bruxism. Stress is one of the causes. Misaligned teeth or sleep issues can also be culprits among adults. Bruxism can give you headaches, a sore jaw, and cracked or loose teeth.

Sleep bruxism is considered a sleep-related movement disorder. People who clench or grind their teeth (brux) during sleep are more likely to have other sleep disorders, such as snoring and pauses in breathing (sleep apnea).

Mild bruxism may not require treatment. However, in some people, bruxism can be frequent and severe enough to lead to jaw disorders, headaches, damaged teeth and other problems.

Because you may have sleep bruxism and be unaware of it until complications develop, it’s important to know the signs and symptoms of bruxism and to seek regular dental care.
